Allsportspk Inspiration: 12 Year Girl From Afghan Refugee To French Football Club Striker

Nadia Nadim was 12 years old in 2000 when she was forced to fled a war-torn Afghanistan.

Despite the mammoth obstacle on her way as the family escaped from Afghanistan and lived in refugee camps in Denmark, young Nadia did not let her love of football wane away.

She got Danish nationality in 2008 and started her
professional football career for Denmark’s national team as well as the B52
Aalborg football club in Denmark.

Nadim then transferred to England’s Manchester City club in
2018 scoring the only goal to lead her side to 1-0 victory against Chelsea in Continental
Tyres Cup.

Currently, the 32-year-old footballer plays for French Club
PSG – Paris Saint-Germain and recently had her contract extended till 2020. So
far, she has made 19 appearances and scored 10 goals for PSG.

The inspirational athlete has been active outside the court
as well, she is a women’s rights activist and was named UNESCO ambassador for
work supporting girls’ education in 2019.

Nadim who considers legendary Brazilian footballer Ronaldo
and Sweden’s Zlatan Ibrahimović as her inspiration and wants to use her status
as a football celebrity to make the sport more inclusive for girls at the
international level.
